![]() ![]() I recently unlocked a fez, and it really brought the game to new heights. As you play you can unlock new hats you can stack, which is more rewarding than it sounds. It’s an arcade style game where you control muscle bound, old timey gentlemen and compete to stack as many hats as possible whilst avoiding obstacles. To address the balance, I scoured the Steam store and found three completely free games worth giving a go that shouldn’t give your processor too much to worry about. They not only exist but are a worryingly common business model, and some are able to use this to sell themselves as ‘free’ games, despite being anything but. So where can gamers on a budget go to satisfy their cravings for the fun, wild and free? Particularly in a world where microtransaction based games, in which you can (and occasionally are forced to) pay to win, exist. Not to mention that they never feel quite as satisfying as actually having a game in your library. There are a multitude of online games websites, each hosting hundreds of titles, but a lot of them feel virus laden. At least in the interest of self-preservation, it should be avoided. Some would point to running games on emulators as a solution, but I would remind you that this is as legal as torrenting a game. There is always the chance to play these games on digital market places (for example Nintendo’s Virtual Arcade), but even they can be pricey for a gamer trying to expand their library on a budget. Most people already own at least a laptop, but you still have to choose between fiscal interest and performance.Īs retro gaming becomes more popular, prices are ever increasing, and the naturally limited supply doesn’t help things (the NES production lines have long since stopped running). ![]() The low end for a three year old console is still £150, and the majority are at least £100 more. That’s more than we spent on films and TV, and far more than we spent on music. In the UK alone we spent £2.5 billion on gaming in 2014, a 7.5% increase on the year before. It always has been, even before the eventof League of Legends or DOTA, or LoL boosting in EUW, more event details on.
